Food Chain Experiences;
The goal of all of
these experiences is to understand the flow of energy in an ecosystem and the
role of various organisms. Later, we will introduce new species into an
ecosystem (“virtually”) to see how invasive species can effect an ecosystem.
To assess your understanding throughout your experiences,
you will fill out a Frayer model for each role.
You will also post to the blog, highlighting the learning experiences from
each station.
1.
On line sites: Food Chain game.
Play the food chain game. You can play as
many times as you need to in order to understand the flow of energy in an
ecosystem.
You can then click on more advanced “bigger
chains,” then work to play the decomposers/scavengers as well.
2.
Card game: Follow the
directions on the table to choose a biome and create a food web. Be sure to
show flow of energy using arrows. What do you notice about the numbers of
organisms that fill each role?
3.
SMART lesson: Use the
Smart Board as a guide to discussion different relationships in an ecosystem.
Today I learned more about food chains and the organisms in them
ReplyDeleteI learned more combinations of what food chains can look like
ReplyDeletei learned about food chains
ReplyDeletewow
DeleteI actually didn't learn much, as I new everything except that worms are decomposers.
ReplyDeleteToday I learned about food chains. (Duh) I found it interesting that after the animal decomposes into the ground, the cycle starts all over again!
ReplyDeleteI learned about food webs in ecosystems.
ReplyDeleteI learned that plants are the number 1 producers
ReplyDeleteI learned how food chains start and end.
ReplyDeleteI learned what a Frayer model is.
ReplyDeleteI now know a lot more than the beginning of class today
ReplyDeleteToday I participated in the food chain game online. I made a few mistakes but got 100% on the decomposers game. I learned that a producer is an organism that produces its own food. Matthew.
ReplyDeleteI learned that when an animal decomposes, it's nutrients go to the soil and start the process all over. I also learned that a worm is a decomposer and not a consumer
ReplyDeleteToday I learned that energy travels a long path through organisms.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone having trouble commenting? I had to try 5 times
ReplyDeleteI had to try twice
DeleteHi this is Julia I emailed this to Helena because I can't post!!
ReplyDeleteI learned that the food chain goes up from producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, and then tertiary consumers. I also learned that producers can be photosynthetic or chemosynthetic.
Julia T.
I learned on the smart board that there can be multiple consumers eating one producer. I liked the smart board because it is interactive.
ReplyDeleteToday I played the online food chain game and also played when I got home. I learned that producers make the food, consumers eat the food and decomposers bread down the dead consumers and the cycle repeats. I also learned that organisms lower produce more than the top level (have more babies).
ReplyDeleteToday I learned that producers take energy from the sun to make food using photosynthesis. I also learned that consumers eat producers.
ReplyDeletei learned that most producers are plants. also that when a animal dies it starts to decompose in to the soil and the food chain starts over once the nutrients from its body gets to a producer.
ReplyDeleteI learned how crucial a single animal can be in the food chain and that the sun starts it all.

Today I learned how producers get energy from the sun and consumers eat things to get energy. I played the card came and me Tyler and Charlie found that most consumers ate the producers. It was fun.
ReplyDeleteToday I learned what food chains are and what they look like
ReplyDeleteToday I learned that if a species becomes extinct, it triggers a chain of events (such as an overpopulation) that may cause the food chain to collapse. I liked how I could interact with the SMART Board. It made the information easier and more fun to learn.
ReplyDeleteI learned about omnivores, I thought that there were only herbivores and carnivores. Also, I liked the computer games, super entertaining!!

Today I learned about how food chains wok. Also I learned that bacteria is mostly a decomposer not only that but also worms flies ants etc. I enjoy studying online and I also enjoy posting on this blog becasue you can see other classmates perspective on the subject. One downside was that my laptop wasn't working as well but I still love the idea!

ReplyDeleteI learned about producers, consumers, and decomposers I learned that producers use photosynthesis and consumers eat other things and decomposers decompose dead animals. I thought using a smart board is a good idea because its hands on and I like the games on the smart board where we had to categorize each animal into the columns labeled consumer, producer, and decomposers -Jonathan
